Backs move from restart scrum?

Has anyone got a good backs move from scrum at halfway after failed restart.

Warren,

As the restart scrum will be in the middle of the pitch there is an opportunity for you to split your backs so the opposition are not sure which side you are attacking. If you then attack either side at speed using your back row players as well, you can have a numerical advantage for a very short time.

The key points are:

  • Steady scrum
  • Quick ball
  • Quick attack

If you can get the scrum to wheel sightly in the direction you are going to attack you will add the advantage of makng it harder for the opposition back row to defend.

I hope this helps you

Simon

Hi Warran

A lot of good stuff from Simon Jones again.  You could also consider tempting the opposition to believing that you intend to attack on one side of the scrum by over loading backs on one side (except a winger)and immediately the scrum has gained possession, continue the deception by creating a quick back row ruck move on the side you intend to run the deception which is designed to suck in the oppositions loose forwards then quickly transferring the backs to the opposite side as the scrum half retrieves ruck ball.  Thus hopefully creates player number mismatch with the opposition defenders also you'd hopefully have tied up their loose forwards on the opposite side.  Its all about timing and practice.  Could utilise a couple times with any scrum roughly in the centre of the pitch creating some 'learned retention' with the opposition who are likely not to be 'fooled' again and will leave players in position but this time attack will happen on the loaded side.

The same key points apply.  Hope it gives you another option
